“What are the soccer seasons?”
The soccer year consists of a Fall and a Spring season. Fall season games typically begin the first Sunday after Labor Day, with practices starting one to two weeks prior and finishes first or second weekend of November.

The spring season begins in April and ends in the middle of June. Each recreational soccer season typically consists of a ten-game schedule.

“When are the season registration periods?"
Registration for the fall season usually begins in May.

Registration for the spring begins after the fall season usually in the month of December.

“How old does my child need to be to play soccer?”

The Southampton Soccer Club Recreational Programs starts at 4 years old with our Little Feet Soccer Clinics.

The Long Island Junior Soccer League Travel Programs starts with the U9 age group.

“We don’t live in the Hamptons during the week, can my child still play for a team?”

Yes, this is still doable. However, your child will miss the midweek training session but will still be eligible to play in games and practices on the weekends.

“What paperwork do I need to submit to register my child to play soccer?”
A completed registration process and payment – online or in person, a copy of your child’s birth certificate if he or she is a first time registrant and the correct fee amount. A player will be registered and put on a roster to a team only if all the paperwork is complete, and the proper fee has been paid.

“How much are the registration fees? What does this cover?”

$279 per season for all the Travel programs.

The fees cover the club registration fee, insurance and league fees as well as professional soccer training once a week with a trainer/coach from Colonial Sports Group.

“What other equipment will my child need?"

Shinguards (mandatory), Soccer cleats recommended, Water bottle recommended and for the LIJ Travel Program each team needs to buy uniforms. (Approx. cost $95 per player for home and away complete uniforms)

“What happens if my child’s registration is received after the registration deadline?"
Any registration received after the deadline will be put on a waiting list. Players will be added to a team roster if space permits, based on the date the registration form was received.

“When and where are the practices?”
Practices are typically held once a week during the week at approx. 5pm – 6.30pm. Training sessions are typically held at the Downs Family Park (Flying Point) in Southampton. The club also have access to training facilities in Red Creek Park in Hampton Bays. Some teams decide to train on non-game days on the weekend as well.

“When and where are the games?”
All HOME games are played at Downs Family park in Southampton.  Games are on weekends with the younger (U8-U12 games on Saturdays) and the older (U13 – U19) on Sundays.

“How do I get to Downs Family Park?”
From western Long Island, take NY-27E toward Montauk.   NY-27E turns slightly left and becomes NY-27E/Southampton Bypass.  Continue on Southampton Bypass to Flying Point Road (about .3 miles).  End at Flying Point Road and Downs Path.  (If you reach Cobb Hill Lane, you have gone too far)

“Is participating in practices and games mandatory?”
Soccer is a team sport and participating in practice fosters a team approach to the game, besides learning and trying new techniques. Practices and games should be attended unless you are ill or there is a legitimate conflict with a school, family or personal event. Please inform your coach if you are unable to attend a practice or game.

“Can my child “play up” in an older age bracket?”
The Director of Coaching will determine if a player can and will be placed in an older age-group. LIJ rules prevents players from playing up more than one year.
